The Harajuku Cooldown Project began on July 17, and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has been chosen as the poster girl for the new initiative.
The project is being sponsored by Kao and is being supported by nine companies, local governments, and other organizations that transcend all boundaries. It was started in response to the fact that global warming is progressing due to climate change and that the temperature in July has risen by about 3°C compared to 10 years ago, with the hope that people will be able to enjoy the event in as much comfort as possible. Facilities and shops have developed more than 50 cool hospitality programs to achieve “-3°C” in their own ways, such as distributing Biore Cold Towels, Kao’s cooling sheets, to those standing in line outdoors.
A video featuring Kyary Pamyu Pamyu was released when the project launched, and special visuals will be on display at WITH HARAJUKU and other local spots during the event period. The artist’s new song KURU KURU HARAJUKU will also serve to enliven the entire project.
<Comment from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu>
“I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed as the poster girl for the Harajuku Cooldown Project to transform Harajuku, a town I am very familiar with, into a refreshing summer getaway!
Various spots in Harajuku, such as Takeshita-dori, Tokyu Plaza Harajuku, and WITH HARAJUKU, are prepared to offer visitors some “cool” hospitality.
My new song, KURU KURU HARAJUKU, also features a cool sound, so please come visit me in Harajuku this summer for some frosty fun!”
