On July 18, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will release her new song, KURU KURU HARAJUKU.

Harajuku pop icon Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is making a comeback after giving birth to her first child, and has released her first new song in about a year and three months. The track’s exotic sound and highly addictive beat blend together to create a song that instantly inspires listeners to dance.

For the song’s art, the project brings together several eminent creators who have supported Kyary since her debut, including Pamyu Pamyu Revolution and Nanda Collection’s Steve Nakamura for art direction, Shinji Konishi for hair and makeup, Kumiko Iijima for styling, and Takeshi Hanzawa for photography. The artist is moving forward while balancing childcare and work, and the cover is making waves, as Kyary is seen with her new baby in her typical style simply having fun. The new work is filled with the desire to show her child the world and help them learn through society, as well as a warm determination to grow as a mother while accompanying them along the way.

In the past, I’ve conducted all of my activities and dropped new tracks in a timely manner and tried to incorporate current trends into what I do. After giving birth for the first time, however, I wanted to switch up the focus and return with my child in the main visual. The key point is my dragon head accessory and the bouldering parts all over the costume, in honor of my baby being born in the year of the dragon. Sometimes, I feel that I’m one with my tiny child, as if they’re my alter ego. I thought to myself “Feel free to climb anywhere on my body. Let’s grow up together.” I thought it was funny and adorable. I’m planning to perform my new song KURU KURU HARAJUKU at ASOBIEXPO on July 20, so please look forward to it!”
