Nara-born singer-songwriter Natsuki Kawanishi released her new single, Butter,  on August 21, 2024.

The new song follows the artist’s recent track Ideal Girl, about the gap between a girl’s real life and her ideal life, which has been played over 25 million times on social media. Additionally, the track Workbook has seen tons of young fans, as it describes the real problems that couples face. Butter is a song about lost love, equating the feeling of drifting apart with the melting of butter.

“My new song, Butter, is about the aftermath of a love that has ended. It describes six slices of bread, which is too much for one person, and a large room that feels lonely. By detailing these small details from daily life, I wanted to express the memories of a painful past that left a mark on my heart and the love felt during days that will never return. 

The casual, everyday moments that happen when you’re in love become nostalgic and wistful. Like butter soaking into bread, thoughts of the past continue to spread and are not easily digested. However, I also want to express my gratitude to the people who made me who I am today, including those I’ve left in the past.

I hope that anyone who listens to this song will be reminded of the memories that are still in their hearts and minds and that it will give them the strength to move forward – even if it’s just one step.”
