SUSHIDELIC NY opened in June 2023 in the SoHo district of New York City, an area known to be artistic. The shop was formed as a sushi restaurant with a completely new perspective under the creative direction of Sebastian Masuda, an artist who creates works with bold colors. The interior of the restaurant is psychedelic and completely unique, seeming as though guests have wandered into another world. The restaurant offers an “immersive kawaii dining experience” that goes beyond a simple meal at a restaurant by allowing visitors to see, touch, and eat Sebastian Masuda’s concept of cuteness.

This year, the restaurant won the grand prize in the project category at the CJPF Awards, organized by the Cool Japan Public/Private Partnership Platform, which gives initiatives to promote Japanese culture to overseas markets. Visitors are welcome to experience this new-generation sushi restaurant where they can experience the charms of Japan.

■Events to Celebrate the Shop’s First Anniversary

The SUSHIDELIC 1st Anniversary Special Days event will take place from June 27 until June 30. During the event, Derrick the Cat, the mascot of SUSHIDELIC NY, and a Monster Girl from KAWAII MONSTER CAFE, a Harajuku-based brand produced by Sebastian Masuda, will welcome customers while a live DJ livens up the restaurant.

Additionally, during the SUSHIDELIC 1st Anniversary Celebration Party on June 27, exclusive food and sweets will be handed out free of charge, and original cocktails will be served, including the standard Japanese shochu highball.
On June 30, the last day of the event, visitors can enjoy the new SUSHI TOWER menu and HARAJUKU Parfait, a new item for the Family Friendly Restaurant block held each Sunday. Children will be able to make colorful monster sweets with the Monster Girls from KAWAII MONSTER CAFE and have their makeup done in Harajuku style.

■Two Brands from Harajuku to Appear in Pop-Up Shop

During the SUSHIDELIC 1st Anniversary Special Days, a pop-up shop for two brands produced by artist Sebastian Masuda, the creative director of SUSHIDELIC NY, will appear at the restaurant. For a limited time, visitors will be able to purchase original items from 6%DOKIDOKI, an apparel brand founded in Harajuku in 1995 and a pioneer in Harajuku Kawaii culture, and KAWAII MONSTER CAFE, which is known to be the ‘most colorful TOKYO experience in the world.’

The company is also looking for partnerships with corporations interested in collaborating with Japanese pop culture content and opening multiple stores in Japan and overseas, particularly in North America.
