ATARASHII GAKKO! will perform Change, the theme song for the upcoming film What if Tokugawa Ieyasu Became Prime Minister? The film is scheduled to be released on July 26.

The film is based on the hit novel of the same title, which has sold over 140,000 copies, an unprecedented number for a business novel. It has also been adapted into a manga series. This is the latest work by director Hideki Takeuchi, who has helmed numerous live-action comedy adaptations such as Thermae Romae and Fly Me to the Saitama.

The story takes place in Japan in 2020, amid the pandemic, when a cluster occurs at the prime minister’s office and the prime minister unexpectedly passes away. A group of eminent figures from Japan’s history gather to save the country from its predicament. The catchy theme song, Change, boasts lyrics fitting with the film’s message, in which great historical figures are resurrected as ’New Japanese Leaders’ to lead the government to rebuild modern Japan.

[Story]
“This is trouble, great figures, assemble! The strongest ministry of heroes is on the scene!!
The year is 2020, and Japan has been robbed of its daily life by the pandemic.
As the whole world is in turmoil, a cluster erupts at the prime minister’s residence, and the prime minister suddenly passes away.
The government’s final resort is an unprecedented plan to “resurrect great historical figures using AI and holograms” to create the most powerful ministry ever.
Ieyasu Tokugawa (Mansai Nomura), “the legendary man who created the Edo Shogunate,” is entrusted with the prime minister’s post. Some of the greatest stars in Japanese history join the Cabinet, including Ryoma Sakamoto (Eiji Akaso), Oda Nobunaga (GACKT), the strongest and most fearsome revolutionary as the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Naoto Takenaka) as the Minister of Finance. Other figures include Murasaki Shikibu (Alisa Mizuki), Prince Shotoku (Mijika Nagai), Hojo Masako (Noriko Eguchi), Tokugawa Yoshimune (Masahiro Takashima), Tokugawa Tsunayoshi (Tetsuhiro Ikeda), and Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (Shinya Kote).
In addition to his overwhelming charisma, his ability to push through policies with unbelievable execution inspires the people, and the whole country quickly falls in love with him.
Meanwhile, young aspiring female TV announcer Risa Nishimura (Minami Hamabe) approaches government spokesman Ryoma Sakamoto in an attempt to get the inside scoop, but she unintentionally becomes aware of a dark agenda forming in the background.
