On October 21, adidas released a new collaboration collection with Hikari Shibata called ‘TOKYO ENERGY,’ which aims to promote Tokyo’s culture to the world. The new kicks are part of the adidas Originals ‘adidas ENERGY’ collection, which reimagines the popular brand’s heritage for the next generation.

Hikari Shibata, who adores low-tech sneakers, reimagined five classic models using her own sensibilities, including the FORUM 84 LOW CL, RIVALRY 86 LOW, and CAMPUS 00s. The model and talent used her closet filled with vintage items from the 80s and 90s as inspiration, and the five pairs of shoes are reminiscent of those decades and the turn of the new millennium in terms of their color and material. Remarkably, they still fit perfectly well with modern styles.

A special event was held on October 20 to celebrate the collection’s release. In addition to the collection being available for pre-sale, Hikari Shibata herself held a chat session to discuss the release, and a special installation of her works will be open to the public.

“The FORUM and RIVALRY have their roots in basketball, while the CAMPUS 00 embodies the mood and style of the early 2000s. I wanted to maintain those legacies while also incorporating “a design that feels somewhat different,” and we ended up creating a simple yet surprising sneaker with a logo only on the outer frame and stripes of Tyrolean tape.”
