Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Releases Music Video for ‘Maybe Baby’

2022.02.14

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s digital single Maybe Baby has been officially released on streaming services! The catchy track will be used as the opening theme song for the Ninjala anime series.

The character designs seen in the music video are the work of up-and-coming illustrator Kayoubi (ASOBISYSTEM). The artist is known for their incredibly nostalgic retro-revival style bringing back powerful memories of the 80s and 90s. Currently, Kayoubi is active in many different fields, often collaborating with apparel brands.

The music video shows a cute animation loop of a girl’s chaotic journey through various worlds. Created by rapper and video director Takeru Shibuya (ODD JOB), it’s sure to take viewers on a journey.

Following the song’s release in January, the Ninjala opening video and official lyric video, produced by Taki Kohei (yenter), have been posted on YouTube.

With the release of her first full-length album in three years, Candy Racer, Kyary is still going strong after a decade in the music industry. The artist is currently on a 30-show tour titled ‘Kyary Pamyu Pamyu 10th ANNIVERSARY JAPAN TOUR 2022 CANDY WAVE,’ her largest tour to date.

In conjunction with the nationwide tour, the ‘LOCAL POWER JAPAN Project’ was launched to energize Japan through the appeal of regional towns and cities. This project is attempting to enliven local communities by collaborating with companies that have roots in the rural locations where these concerts will be held. These company’s logos have been reimagined, paying homage to the artwork associated with Kyary’s previous song releases.

T-shirts designed with each of these collaborative logos will be on sale for a limited time, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the local community for development and social contributions.
