Illustrator BEY’s solo exhibition, THIS IS WAMERICAN, will be held at YOD TOKYO in Harajuku, Tokyo, from May 8 to May 20.
This exhibition, which is the first to be held in Tokyo in about a year, features the largest-scale works to date, as well as the largest number of works ever displayed. Visitors will get a comprehensive look at the current state of the “Wamerican” style, which has evolved over the course of its eight-year history. In addition, original merchandise featuring BEY’s artwork on traditional Japanese items such as sake cups, sake bottles, hand towels, and envelopes will be on sale at the venue.
A reception party will be held on opening day, May 8, and during the panel, the creator will discuss the pieces on display and the thoughts he has poured into his work.
■Comment from BEY
“This is my first solo exhibition in Tokyo in a year.
This is my largest collection to date, featuring the most pieces ever. After eight years working as BEY, “Wamerican” has transformed and evolved in so many different directions. I’m going to keep giving it everything I’ve got. I hope this exhibition will attract visitors not only from Tokyo but also from various regions across Japan and around the world. Please come visit!
